The Gold Circle

Today was a rainy start to the day. My friend and I got up and made breakfast and got ourselves ready for the day. We also went on a quick adventure because my friend had discovered a place that had good cinnamon rolls and good coffee. It was a windy day walking around. When we got back to the hostel we got the car a 9am. From there we were off.

The drive was rainy but beautiful. It was hard to see some of the mountains. Our first stop was Pingvellir National Park. I spent the first few minutes wandering around trying to find a bathroom. It seemed like I went on a random scavenger hunt. In the end I at least saw some beautiful sights while I saw searching.

The first part of our hike was to the fissure where we could stand between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. If you were brave enough to swim or scuba dive you could do that but we opted for the warmer option and watched and walked around. It was pretty neat.

The next part of this hike was to the overlook where we could see the rivers and pathways below. We walked on to see a very beautiful fall that cut through the rocks and emptied into another river below it where we saw another small falls. It was lovely and beautiful to marvel at.

We walked around the falls more then it was on to the next spot, which was a geysir which is called Great Geysir. It goes off about every 4-8 minutes. We got to watch it go off several times which was awesome. I have never seen anything like it. There were also lots of little hot springs along there. You had to watch where you walked so you didn't burn yourself on hot water.

After grabbing a quick lunch we went to another falls. This one was was called Gullfoss and was pretty amazing to look at. It reminded me of the Niagara Falls. The overlook was amazing. We also walked down to the base but you could not see the magnitude of the falls because it ended in a ravine, at the base. Still the falls were amazing.

Next was our 3rd falls of the day, which was Seljandsfoss Waterfall. It was one you could walk behind. There were several smaller falls around there as well. I enjoyed walking around this set of falls. It was a large, beautiful falls.

Racing the rain and the sunset we made it to our final stop, the largest and highest waterfall in Iceland. This one is called Skogafoss Waterfall. This falls we so cool. It doesn't have a lot of rocks below like other falls. It was a very straight, very strong falls. The sun set while we were marveling at the falls.

From there it was a quick stop at a grocery store and on to the hostel. I was tired by the time we got to the hostel. I also made dinner and showered. It was an early night for me.
