Light Up The Sky
Today was a day of mostly driving. We slept in and ate breakfast before packing up the car again. The morning was cold, cloudy and gloomy.
On the road we wound our way down route 1. It started to snow and rain through out the morning. We wound our way along the coast. It is very beautiful even with the snow and rain. There are lots of mountains along the coastline.
We headed towards the West fjords in the afternoon. Here the road alternated between paved and stone roads. It was fun to drive down. Here the sheep and even a horse roamed free. There was even a few sheep in the actual road. Don't worry we didn't hit them.
We continued on until we came to the small town Holmavik. Here we went to the Icelandic Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft. It was pretty interesting. I learned that more men were accused of witchcraft than any females. It was both a cool and creepy museum.
After the museum we wandered around the town. There wasn't a lot to see but it was good to get out and walk. Then we went back to the museum which had a restaurant in the other half. I had lamb stew which was very good.
Off to the hostel for the night. This hostel is like a mini apartment. It is very nice but in the middle of nowhere. It is however, on the ocean edge.
We decided to take an adventure and go to a set of free hot springs that are right at the ocean edge. There is a change room across the way then you can jump right in.
We stayed there for a while. We saw in the sky what we tbkught was the arora borealis but we weren't sure. Then as it started to move and turn a deeper green it became clear that it was the arora borealis. It was so cool.
We watched it for a while and then it faded. We headed back to the hostel, jumped in the car and headed out to where there was less lights from the houses and street. There we were able to see the arora borealis but not as brightly. It was still amazing.
