Castle on the Hill
I was very tired last night so I slept well. I got up a little before 7. After. Getting ready I headed back to Calton Hill so I could explore it in the daylight.
The walk was quick and nice, even through it rained a little on the way. The hill was nice and better in some ways since I could see more of the monuments on the walk, and the city, it was also cool to see the city in the dark with all the lights.
I spent an hour wandering around the grounds for an hour. After that I started a slow walk back to my hostel. I made a few stops along the way and enjoyed watching the city hustle, so much different in the morning before all the tourists are up.
Once my hostel mate was up we headed to breakfast at The Edinburgh Cafe. I wanted English bacon so I got eggs Benedict which was great. The coffee was also good. We ate and planned our day.
We decided to explore after breakfast. Our first stop was St. Gile's Cathedral. It is beautiful inside and outside. We also went to a Harry Potter Shop and museum. Then we wandered for a while.
We had 11:30 tickets to see the Edinburgh Castle. We spent the next 2.5 hours exploring. There is a lot of history there, including stuff on Mary Queen of Scotts, the coronation stone still used by the English, and the Scottish crown jewels.
After this we headed to a little cafe for lunch. It was a small but enjoyable lunch. We grabbed my bag and headed towards the train station. It was still early so I walked around some of the shops.
After almost getting on the wrong train I got on the correct train and headed towards London. This was a different train from yesterday and the route took us along the ocean at one point. It was a very nice, relaxing train ride.
I got on the Tube once I got to Kings Cross. I took it for an hour before I got to Heathrow. I caught a taxi to my hotel from there. This was the easiest and cheaper option to get to my hotel and because I have an early morning flight tomorrow I wanted to be close to the airport.
The hotel is nice and basic. I can't tell you how nice it is to habe my own room and my own bed tonight. I ordered take away from the restaurant in the lobby, showered, and enjoyed some time relaxing in my room. My bags were repacked for the next morning as it would be an early day.
