An Alien Landscape

Today was a relaxing day. We had another slow start to the day and enjoyed breakfast before heading back on the road. It is still raining here. I am hoping for some sunnier weather soon.

Back in the car we traversed more of route one and headed northward in Iceland. Here the landscape changed drastically. It seemed like something out of another world. It looked like we were in space. Lava flow has clearly impacted the landscape lot.

We drove up a dirt road with lots of rocks and puddles to dodge. After a short, fun, and interesting walk we made it to Dettifoss Falls. They are the second strongest falls in Europe. They are pretty fantastic. We walked a bit more of the path before turning back for the car.

Back on the road we wound our way through more of the roadways and over the mountains. There was snow in some places. We made it to our next spot which was Myvatn Geothermic area where we wandered around the small geothermal pools and holes. One had to be careful where they stepped.

The weather wasn't great so we headed down the road to Myvatn Geothermal Natural Baths. These are geothermal pools that we got to swim in. They were warm, blue, and beautiful. They overlooked the lake and had lots of places to spread out and relax. It rained a bit while we were there which was actually refreshing. I enjoyed my time there.

Back in the car we wound our way again through more hills. It started to rain harder and we planned to go directly to our next hostel but along the way we spotted Godafoss Falls. We ran out of the car to snag some photos. The falls were spectacular. There are many amazing falls in Iceland.

We made our way to the hostel. It is big and lovely and we have the place to ourselves. The place overlooks the lake. It is nice and relaxing. After a trip to the grocery store we settled in for the night and did more relaxing.
