The best laid plans of mice and men...

Today was supposed to be a boat tour day. After waking up a bit late I rushed to get ready to go for the boat tour that had been booked. No email showed the tour had been cancelled due to weather. I thought it might be because of the weather, rain and lightning.

After rushing down to the docks I found out it had been cancelled but no one emailed. The tour company explained that the weather was supposed to get bad and they felt it was unsafe to go out.

I headed to one of the coffee shops to get a cappuccino and plan what to do. There were lots of potential plan ideas but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I headed back to the hostel to do more planning, stay out of the incoming storm, and ditch my bathing suit. I didn't plan on needing it.

After a mad dash through the market again, this time to buy myself an umbrella I headed to the bus station to find out when there was a bus to Trigor. After purchasing my ticket I had 50 minutes to spend so another trip down by the market and to the water used up my free moments.

I caught the bus to Trigor. It is not as nice of a ride as other ones but that is partially because the roads are more like city roads between the two areas. Once in Trigor it was time to disembark and wander around.

I started at the heart of the city. There are many churches in Trigor. I wandered around and looked at many of them. I also went and saw the castle that sits at the other end of the city. There was a soccer pitch in the middle of two of the turrets of the castle.

I wandered around for a while longer. I walked into many of the little shops that are in the area. There are tons of tourist shops. There are also lots of places to eat. While I wandered around I enjoyed taking pictures of the side streets.

Once it started to thunder and the sky got black I figured it was a good chance to stop and grab food for lunch. I tried the traditional Croatian dish Pašticada, which is beef that had been marinated for a while and then stewed. It was served with gnocchi. It was okay.

After lunch I needed to walk around some more. I decided to do more shopping, though I really didn't buy anything. I like looking at all the different wares but not much fits in my backpack. It felt good to walk around, take more photos and just people watch. I also checked out another market and a local market with the older men were playing chess and cards.

After a quick rest I wanted to go back and shop an walk more. I still didn't buy anything but I saw some amazing jewelry and other fun things, like erotic book marks. I also stopped for a late coffee and traditional Croatian dessert: Trogirska Rozata, which reminded me of flan.

More walking and window-shopping ensured after that. Then I walked to the boat I was planning on taking back to Split. I was too early so I wandered around the city streets where the locals live.

I caught the boat back to Split. It stopped at one island along the way and we had to swap boats. Along the way the send set behind the mountains. It was fantastic! We pulled into Split with the city lights shinning and the sky dark.

Despite the facts that the plans did not go as originally hoped today was a very good day. Now I am in the hostel, writing post cards and prepping dinner. An early night is okay with me. I did lots of walking today.
